The world of Elden Ring has finally expanded with the long-awaited release of its new DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. FromSoftware, who are well-known for their masterful storytelling and challenging gameplay, have delivered an expansion that promises to deepen the lore and elevate the gaming experience of this fan favourite. FromSoftware have an important reputation to uphold after winning the Game of The Year award with the original game back in 2022 and expectations are understandably high among fans, but thankfully the early reviews have been encouraging.

From mysterious storylines to enhanced gameplay, keep reading to find out everything you need to know about Shadow of the Erdtree.

Expansive New Regions

Shadow of the Erdtree will introduce an entirely new region for players to explore. The ‘Land of the Shadow’ is a brand new world with breathtaking scenery that is said to be as perilous as it is beautiful. Whilst early reviews claim the new region to not match up in size to the base game, ‘Land of the Shadow’ is densely packed with trails and much more vertical exploration. From hauntingly serene landscapes to nightmarish caverns, the new environments are designed to captivate and challenge.

Although not much has been revealed about the game's storyline, we know that the Shadowlands was where the goddess Marika first set foot. As an adventurer, guided by the demi-god Miquella (brother of Malenia), you will explore this new land full of dark secrets, and encounter other characters who also follow in Miquella’s footsteps, each with their own hidden motives.

New Enemies and Bosses

Along with the new landscapes, Shadow of the Erdtree is said to be packed with an array of new enemies, each requiring strategic combat and keen observation to defeat. The game introduces a whole new series of standard enemies and a total of ten new bosses which are set to be some of the most challenging yet, pushing players to their limits with intricate attack patterns and devastating abilities.

Enhanced Gameplay Mechanics

To tackle the new challenges, Shadow of the Erdtree brings enhanced gameplay mechanics and new abilities. These additions not only provide more depth to combat but also introduce new ways to interact with the environment and story. Experiment with different builds, spells, and weapons as you face the dangers of the Land of Shadow.

What do I need to play Shadow of the Erdtree?

When choosing a gaming PC for Shadow of the Erdtree, consider the following factors for a smooth gaming experience in the Land of Shadow.

60FPS CAP

Elden Ring has a built-in 60FPS cap, so aiming for higher frame rates isn’t necessary.

The game’s slower-paced nature makes 60FPS sufficient for a smooth experience.

PROCESSOR

Shadow of the Erdtree isn’t overly demanding on the CPU, so modern entry-level CPUs from Intel or AMD are suitable.

We suggest an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 for optimal performance.

Higher end processor options we suggest would be Intel Core i5 14600K and AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

GRAPHICS

For GPUs, consider models like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 6650 XT for great 1080p experiences and models such as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti or Radeon RX 7600 XT for 1440p performance.

Elden Ring supports Ray Tracing, so if you wish to explore The Land of Shadow with enhanced shadows and reflections, then you may need to keep this in mind when choosing your graphics card.
